Or are you just plain flaky?
This is the question I asked women when I taught about the snowflake. This is the first part of that teaching. I thought I would share it with you, my faithful blog readers. It will help explain my blog title, “Confessions of a Snowflake”. I hope you enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~
Have you ever thought much about a snowflake?
Where I live we hardly ever see snow. And when we do see snow it’s very light. It’s so light that you think you can see each individual snowflake.
Snowflakes are very interesting. Each one is different. The way they are formed prevents them from ever being alike.
I wish I could take credit for the spiritual application of the snowflake and our unique creation in Christ.
But, alas, I cannot. Several years ago, while trying to prepare a lesson for our monthly women’s fellowship that I was involved in at the time, I read the following quote on an online forum:
“I am not a cookie cutter, I am a snowflake.”
I wish I could remember who wrote this. My terrible memory doesn’t even let me remember what I ate for lunch, let alone what I read online four years ago. But I would love to be able to thank them because this short phrase spoke volumes to me about the love of God.
It was as if He reached down to me and said, “See I love you. I made you like a snowflake, pure, holy and beautiful. I love you so much that I made you unique. You are delicate and I love you intimately.”
God loves each of us so much, that He takes the time to make us unique. We only have to look around us to see how different we all are. There are even subtle differences in identical twins.
But as women, we struggle so much with our self-image, always comparing ourselves to the other women around us. God never intended for it to be that way.
First Colossians says that all things were created for him. Don’t you think if he made us to look at, he would make us pretty? I think so. As a matter of fact, Zephaniah 3:17 says He takes great delight in us. We usually don’t take great delight in something that isn’t attractive.
First Timothy 4:4 goes even further to say that everything God created is good. And Ecclesiastes 3:11 says He has made everything beautiful in its time. My friend, that includes you and me.
God made each of us unique. He made each of us beautiful.
Never forget that, my friend. You were not a mistake. You have a purpose. May He show you His love. May He show you His purpose for your life and may He give you the strength to walk in it.
So, this is the reason my blog is “Confessions of a Snowflake”. My prayer is that by sharing my “confessions” and my life, I can be an encouragement to others. May we all be snowflakes together!
Join me next Sunday as I talk about how a snowflake is formed. I think you will enjoy it!
Your snowflake friend,
Alicia
And friends, let’s not remember to pray for our nation. We can’t leave it up to the Pastor or our Bible Study Leader. We have to pray. It is up to each of us.
Dear Lord, we thank you for this Sunday and we thank you for this nation where we are free to worship You on Sunday. May we never forget that freedom. Father, we ask that You help us to preserve it. Only You can heal our nation. We put our trust in you, not the politicians or the economy. But in you alone. We thank You for provision and protection. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Alicia,
You are so beautiful & I am so encouraged by each of your posts. I so wish I could transfer my thoughts to posts like you do, just awesome!
Alicia,
This was a beautiful post!! I loved reading the story about your blog name. I love the name of your blog and had wondered why the name was picked. Perfect title!
Thanks for sharing with us!
Blessings to you today and enjoy your Sunday!
Hello Alicia,
What a good comparsion. Your explanation is clear to me.
I too, am like you, in that my memory fails me sometimes when I wish I could recall things to mind. My husband has a memory like a barcode reader in the grocery store – one look and its committed into his grey matter, to be instantly retrieved the moment its needed.
I was thinking about this ‘snowflake’ thing just the other day, actually in the area of intimacy in marriage, and hope to work up a blog post sometime in the future on this very subject! Thanks for inspiring me.
I do pray for your nation and my own. I’ll make your nation, at this time of elections my prayer focus for today.
Thank you for sharing, your posts always make me feel the richer for having visited.
What a terrific comparison! Very nice.
I love the verses you used, too. Colossians chapter 1 is one of my favorites. I memorized it years ago and prayed it for my 3 children, and Zephaniah 3:17 is the verse I’ve claimed for one my youngest granddaughter.
Thanks for coming by today! I’ll be back later this week.
Have a blessed couple of days.
What a good analogy. God must have created us and the snowflakes at the same time. Like a snowflake, we are not alike.
Love the idea of a snowflake,we can find so much in God’s creations– they are just incredible. Today I learned about palm trees. They have the ability to bend in a storm, bend to a horizontal position to the ground and when the winds stop it regains its upright position and its roots are stronger. That is how I need to be with a storm in my life, the illustration just helps so much.
